		<description><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.facebook.com/events/224211990999002"><img class="alignleft  wp-image-1623" style="margin: 5px;" title="hub3" src="http://thehubhalifax.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/hub3.jpg" alt="" width="149" height="186" /></a>On Tuesday, February 7th, join us in celebrating the Hub&#8217;s 3rd Birthday and the opening of Teresa Kilbride&#8217;s interpretive show of paintings titled &#8220;Have a Seat&#8221; &#8211; this will be the first in a series of month-long art shows hosted by the lovely <a href="http://tamperling.blogspot.com/">Gia Greer</a> at the Hub.</p>
<p>We will have cake, wine and cheese. Expect some thoughtful moments and some good fun. Come with some ideas of your own to share in our video booth. View an interview with Teresa and learn more about her and the art she will share with us on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Thank you to everyone who participated in the first launch of WalkHalifax. We finished the last walk on October 26, an Urban Nature Walk led by the Sierra Club. I learned A LOT. Norway maples all around the downtown have black spots on their leaves. Imported plant species don&#8217;t stand up well to our pests and diseases, kind of a no-brainier but I&#8217;ve lived here for 8 years without knowing that &#8211; SAD!</p>

<p>Since November 2009, the government of Nova Scotia (NS) has been facilitating a Social Enterprise Working Group comprised of federal and provincial civil servants and other professionals from various organizations across the province. By early 2011, the Working Group produced a discussion paper that explores social enterprise as a concept. The <strong></strong><strong></strong><a href="http://thehubhalifax.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Conceptual-Framework-for-Social-Enterprise-in-NS_FV1.pdf">discussion paper</a> refers to social enterprise as <strong>“businesses or organizations operated for the purpose of tackling social, economic or environmental challenges”.</strong> There is no agreement on what constitutes a social enterprise- different groups have different definitions based on specific objectives.  The choice of the working group is influenced&#8230;</p>]]></description>

<p>On Friday, volunteers from Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) and the Hub installed the new Hub gallery showing a selection of art work from various artists in the community. The photo above is getting up close with work by David Dahms. Two touchable, detailed and light reflecting pieces that initially make you feel like something is being mapped. But what? Come in, learn more and see the new work, it&#8217;s quite amazing.</p>
