There is no absence of good ideas in the world. All that we face is a crisis of access, scale, resources and impact. So what would happen if there was a place to go to access resources, connections, knowledge and investment? Welcome to The Halifax Hub.

This evening the Hub celebrates with one of our members, Carbon Sense Solutions who will be recognized as 2nd place winners in the innovacorp i3 Start-Up Competition for Zone 3: Halifax Regional Municipality. A big congratulations to Carbon Sense Solutions on this achievement from all of us at the Hub!

In addition to qualifying for this very competitive award, Carbon Sense Solutions has been a great partner in leading the newly created HubTalk focusing on the Climate Change trip, post Copenhagen. The HubTalk series was inspired by hosting the first TEDxHalifax talk in October, which focused on “Global Perspective and Local Learning”.

ARTICLE FROM: www.webworkerdaily.com

March 30th: Stretching all the way back to April of last year, coworking – the growing movement of independent café-like collaboration spaces for freelance professionals – has been a popular topic here on WebWorkerDaily, covered from many perspectives by our writing team and also attracting some thought-provoking commentary from our readers.

At its heart, the concept of coworking is very attractive to many web workers. You get to work in a creative environment with other professionals, freed from unhappy workplaces, with the option to be as flexible as you choose.

Ever since OPEC vexed Jimmy Carter into wearing a cardigan, telecommuting has been touted as a fix for what ails the US office worker — the agony and expense of commuting, the drudgery of cubicles, the shortage of family time.

What’s the Infrastructure for Realizing Ideas for a Radically Better World?
Work isn’t working. That much is clear. Freelancers, flexi-workers, nomad professionals and social entrepreneurs are more and more often characterizing the landscape of contributors to social and ecological responsibility. As we see a shift toward more flexible and entrepreneurial working patterns and an increased ambition to create world-changing products and services, there is demand for new forms of workspace that attract, inspire and support people to realize that ambition.

This is an interesting article but I think probably a bit to over the top in some ways. I think you need to have the business types in suits around to be part of the picture. I think what is great about this article is the part about being authentic. Sometimes networking is over-engineered and unfortunately not very much fun which means people stop playing or participating. Humans have always networked, it’s part of how we operate so there’s only a few things you need to do. A place, a time and maybe a few goodies.
