On Tuesday, November 17th, Dale Zak submitted the first iPhone application – Meet Me Here on behalf of a new business called Apps4Good.
The Give: When you purchase the Meet Me Here application, the proceeds will benefit Phoenix Youth, who offer ten programs and services that support at-risk and homeless youth, ages 12-24. Phoenix help youth transition from a place of need, to a place of happy and healthy independence. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
The Get: A useful, well designed and built iPhone application that allows you to quickly send a Meet Me Here message to your contacts via email and Twitter.
Apps4Good is a business created because of a few incredible events held at the Hub, initiated by Dale Zak that involve leveraging Mobile Technology for Social Good. First it was Mobile Tech 4 Social Change Halifax in May and then the iPhone Hackathon for Charity in July. The goal of the iPhone Hackathon for Charity was to build iPhone applications over a weekend and have the profits of their sale go to local charities.
Since that weekend, a handful of committed people have been creating the structures and mechanisms to make this work and now we have our first opportunity for success.
