iPhone Hackathon – Thank You!

I was really inspired by the hard work and commitment of the people participating in the iPhone Hackathon for Charity held at the Hub this weekend. We all know how little sunshine is around these days in Halifax and this group of talented people worked through most of it, breaking only to watch parts of the PRIDE parade from the windows of the Hub and to share a drink together while DJ RICH+NESS spun tunes.

See pictures here.

I want to thank the sponsors who contributed to making this an ideal, intensive work experience by providing resources and in-kind contributions so the participants were well taken care of. Delicious, healthy and tasty food came from Local Source, covered by InNOVAcorp, Nova Scotia Economic & Rural Development and Huminah Huminah. Splice provided snacks while Be Massage Therapy relieved the computer tension build-up with great head, neck and back massages.

Branding and marketing support was contributed by Hi There and the art work from talented Nick Brunt migrated to t-shirts sponsored by Bill Wilson from MindSea. The Coast ran three web ads as well as a print ad to get the message out.

William Lachance writes about the weekend in a blog post from today:

“I think it’s fair to say that Halifax’s first iPhone hackathon for charity was a big success. The idea was pretty simple: get a group of people (developers, marketers, artists) together over a weekend and try to produce as many iPhone apps as possible over the course of a weekend. Sell the apps on the app store (or otherwise monetize them), then donate the proceeds to charity.”

A big thank you to everyone who played a role in making this weekend a success!
