I just finished reading Seth Godin’s new book “Tribes”, it has a really beautiful cover design and a simple message. As humans we intrinsically want to belong, not to just one tribe, but to many. Social networking technologies have made it easier than ever to find others with shared passion and interest, connect and make thinks happen.
Even before I picked up this book, I knew that in starting the hub we were building a tribe. the hub is a tribe that wants to make things better. There are hundreds of examples in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the world where positive change is called for.
There are countless people like you: people who have ideas, people who care, people who have energy to engage and make something happen. For many of us we simply want to do what we’re already doing better, some of us have ideas and are trying to break ground and start something new.
the hub is a place for all of us. It is a playground, a canvas, a laboratory for experimentation; a place to connect and take risks; a place to test things out and scale up – with a tribe at your back. What if we all had dozens of cheerleaders for our business, project or movement? What if it was totally natural, that you just showed up to take out your laptop and check your mail, but in the spaces between a tribe just grew?
More accurately the hub will be a tribe of tribes. When I conceived the interlocking circles on our logo that was what I imagined. I saw many people, ventures and movements overlapping and expanding. Here we are at the very beginning weeks before the space has even opened and the possibilities are endless. Can we build a tribe that will change Halifax, that will change us? Who needs to be there and how do we release the passion and energy people have for making things better and building a hub tribe?

Hey there, Halifax Hub-ites
Congratulations on what you’ve already achieved, just by bringing this wonderful space into existence. The site looks great, and the time feels right.
Can’t wait to witness it for myself, but meanwhile I’m wishing you all well.
